Two men injured falling down a stairwell
A builder has been prosecuted after two men were injured in a fall after a temporary platform failed
A builder has been fined following an accident in which two of his employees were injured at work.
Malcolm Shaun Foyle from Salisbury was fined £2,000 and ordered to pay costs of £1,000 at Salisbury Magistrates Court after the two men fell from height off a temporary work platform in August 2008.
Stairs in a property had been removed and a temporary platform had been put over the gap. However the screws holding the platform in place gave way and both men fell through the stairwell.
One of the men suffered a fracture as a result. Mr Foyle pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 4 of the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
Health and Safety Executive Inspector Andrew Kingscott said: “Falls from height remain the largest cause of fatal and serious injuries in the construction industry. These two workers could have been much more seriously injured than they were. Incidents like this are easily prevented if the correct measures are taken to make sure that employees are not put at risk.”
