Whiplash injury legal news in the UK

News about whiplash injuries

Here is a summary of recent whiplash related accident news in the UK

Claims code [Feb 06]

A working party made up of Insurer and claimant lawyers are currently drafting the framework for a new "code" for dealing with personal injury claims. The objective is to help accelerate the claims process by dealing with key issues at an early stage with the focus on liability disputes, rehabilitation and minimising delays. This will save on the costs involved in pursuing claims and may reduce overall expenditure for insurers. Insurers are to consider the proposals in the coming weeks.

Personal Injury small claims limit of £1000 [Jan 06]

There is much debate at the moment concerning the small claims limit relating to injury claims. Legal costs are not recoverable unless damages exceed the small claims limit - currently set at £1000.  However, the Constitutional Affairs Select Committee as part of their review for the Compensation Bill have made a recommendation that the limit be increased from £1000 to £2500. This would leave many thousands of injured accident victims with no opportunity to have legal representation in the event of pursuing a claim.

Acupuncture in the treatment of injuries. [Jan 06]

Doctors and therapists in the UK are embracing ancient acupuncture techniques in treating personal injuries. Common injuries such as whiplash and back pain respond well to such treatment and there is a growing trend towards this form of therapy in place of more traditional physiotherapy options.
