Toyota linked to United States deaths
The US government says Toyota accelerator problems could be linked to as many as 89 deaths - 4th June 2010
The United States government has said that the acceleration problems with Toyota vehicles could be linked to 89 deaths in the country over the past decade.
A total of 52 road accident fatalities were believed to have been caused by the acceleration problems but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has given a higher figure.
It added that there had been over 6,200 complaints between 2000 and May this year related to the Toyota vehicles.
Toyota has recalled more than eight million vehicles worldwide as a result of safety concerns and has paid a record £11.4m fine for its slow response to the accelerator problem.
The car manufacturer said it was, “making an all-out effort to ensure our vehicles are safe and we remain committed to investigating reported incidents of unintended acceleration in our vehicles quickly.”
