Both Toyota and BMW have been forced to recall
vehicles over safety concerns and the increased risk of
them being involved in
road accidents.
Toyota is to recall around 40 Lexus cars in the UK
for steering issues, while the German manufacturer is
set to recall over 6,500 of its motorbikes over fears of
a faulty braking system.
The Toyota move is part of a worldwide recall of
almost 11,500 Lexus models fitted with variable gear
ratio steering. A defect in the system means that the
steering may not work for a few seconds at a time
causing major concerns about vehicles vulnerability to
becoming involved in
car accidents. The car manufacturer has already been
forced to recall six models made between 2006 and 2009.
Meanwhile BMW has written to owners of the bikes it
is to recall telling them that vibrations could cause
leaks that could allow brake fluid to escape. It said
that in extreme cases this could lead to a complete
failure of the front brakes raising concerns about the
increased risk of
motorcycle accidents. The recall accounts for
roughly a third of BMW motorbikes produced during the
period in question.
