A Leeds inquest has heard of how a mother watched
helplessly as her two-year-old son was killed in a
road accident when he fell under a bus after falling
off his tricycle.
Aryan Shimpi suffered head injuries in the
bus
accident in Roundhay in June last year. He was given
mouth-to-mouth resuscitation by his mother at the scene
before being taken to Leeds General Infirmary where he
died shortly afterwards.
Aryan’s mother Rumana had just registered him at a
local nursery before returning home. Aryan was pedalling
six feet ahead of her on the pavement when he lost his
balance and fell under the nearside wheel of the bus.
No passengers were on the bus at the time which was
negotiating a sharp bend and traffic island and was only
travelling at between five and 10 mph.
The coroner David Hinchliff recorded a verdict of
accidental death and pronounced: “The police do not
consider that the driver of the bus would have had prior
warning and could have taken any further avoiding
action.”
