New superbug threat to UK hospital patients
There is a new superbug in town according to the Health
Protection Agency.
Psuedomonas is a bug that bears remarkable similarity to
the CDiff & MRSA strains that we have become all too
familiar with.
According
to Health
Protection Agency figures
there has been a dramatic increase of more than 40% in
recorded cases. This despite the fact that the bug is
not officially one that the hospitals are obligated to
formally record.
This may lead to more and more
medical
negligence claims against the
NHS for breaches of hygiene rules which may constitute
negligence.
Traditional
cleaning agents have proved to be unreliable and in many
cases inadequate as a preventative measure. The bug is
very similar to MRSA and C Difficile but can be more
deadly. Official figures are hard to come by because the
bug has no reporting criteria other than a voluntary
option which is not taken up by the majority of
hospitals.
