NHS Redress Bill completes
Parliamentary phase
The NHS Redress Bill has been introduced by the Government to (amongst
other things) improve the complaints process and reduce costs
associated with medical negligence compensation cases in England &
Wales
The Bill aims to simplify the compensation process. This will enable victims
of medical errors or their families to complain with minimal stress and
inconvenience. At the present time if you make a
claim compensation for medical
negligence generally you need to
be represented by a solicitor. This escalates costs considerably.
The Bill has
made slow progress through the parliamentary system but the Lords have now
completed their contribution and the Bill is currently awaiting Royal
Assent.
The Department
of Health has indicated that there will be a consultation period with the
legal industry during secondary legislation.
