In a surprising it of research, the NHS has received some encouraging feedback from patients who have encountered a hospital stay recently.

The Healthcare Commission said that in its survey of 80,000 the NHS received a firm vote of confidence. However some patients were unhappy at the introduction of more mixed wards and 25% commented that there were not shown enough respect whilst being treated.

The survey revealed that patients were not too concerned about having a choice of hospital to receive treatment (a scheme which forms part of the governments flagship reforms) but instead preferred the confidence of knowing that a hospital was clean and hygienic.

Of those surveyed, the most common complaint was a lack of dignity or respect shown to patients and particularly the elderly or infirm. Some Trusts had worse records than others in this area.

The Commission has called for a "fresh drive" to promote a better understanding from healthcare workers towards patients.
