Woman seeks over £50m in compensation after botched facelift
A woman is suing a cosmetic surgeon based near Leeds after being left with, what she says is uncontrollable facial movement and pain around the right eye which will probably be with her for the rest of her life.
Penny Johnson, who lives in Surrey, is taking the High Court action against Dr Le Roux Fourie following an operation carried out in 2003. The surgeon, who claims to specialise in facial surgery, including brow lift and face and neck lifts, works from his practice near Methley Park Hospital. She said that she suffered nerve damage around the cheek and eye which left her with a twitch and she claimed that as a result she was unable to adequately perform in her job.
Mrs Johnson, who was a successful businesswoman at the time of the operation, said that the financial and IT consultancy, of which she was a director, suffered as a result and was taken over in 2009. She said that this has cost her £600,000 in savings a year and is suing Dr Le Roux Fourie for a total of £54m.
A preliminary hearing into the case heard that the surgeon has admitted negligence but is contesting the compensation claimed.
