Whiplash advice given to drivers in Yorkshire
Drivers in Yorkshire have been given advice on how to sit properly in their car.
A recent survey by the British Osteopathic Association has found that over half of drivers in Yorkshire did not sit in the car in a position where their head is close enough to the head rest, while a similar number never adjusted their head rest at all. It also found that 16% of drivers in the county sit too far back for their seat belt to be fully effective.
The Goodhealth Centre in Leeds, giving advice on the correct posture for car users, says that the seat belt should ideally be touching the shoulder to help prevent serious neck injury. It also says that the head rest should be situated close to the back of the head and as high as the top of the person's head as this position would reduce the chances of whiplash occurring if the car is shoved forward when hit from behind in a car accident.
