More motorcyclists flout the rules
New government figures have revealed that more motorcyclists are breaking the speed limits on Britain's roads.
The Department for Transport data shows that more than half of all motorcycles exceeded the speed limit on the nation's motorways, dual carriageways and 30mph-limit roads. The figures also showed the lowest yearly number of new motorcycles registered since records began, though the number of licensed machines with an engine size of 50cc or higher had risen.
The figures also show that there were 1.3 million licensed motorcycles in Britain by the end of 2009, while those riding them drove about 3.2bn miles last year, up on 10 years ago but down on the 1960 figures of 6.2bn miles, when motorbiking was at its height.
