Law 2.0 as opposed to Web 2.0?
More people than ever before are using the internet to find lawyers across the full range of legal services. Times are definitely changing.
The world of legal services is a much changed environment. Today the Law Society published details of recent research which indicated that more people than ever before were using the web to obtain legal advice and representation across a range of issues.
Every are of law is covered online with a wealth of information websites and direct opportunities to obtain No win No fee advice or fixed fee services. The volumes of "legal traffic" online have doubled in the last two years.
In our particular area (No win No fee compensation) we have seen a dramatic increase in the number of visitors and the wide scope of services that people actually require. The web offers a chance for solicitor practices to present their services in a straightforward manner allowing the site visitor make decisions about; a) whether they want / need legal help and b) how to get such help. There is no longer a need for an appointment or a visit to their local high street where you have to convince a lawyer to take your case on.
The market is vibrant and healthy with a competitive edge. This can only be good for the consumer (prospective client) who has the benefit of choosing the firm that suits them best.
With the adoption of Web 2.0 methods on the internet and embracing of social media and related products, law firms also need to be thinking about how they progress their online profile. "Law 2.0" as it has been dubbed will be a very interesting evolutionary step significantly enhancing the services already available to the public.
This will involve creation of chat line style advice models and video presentation. Blog style comment threads and forums will become more important as we move away from the static sites seen up to now.
Exciting times ahead for lawyers in the online world!
