Combating sickness absence at work
According to the HSE around 2 million workers suffer ill health at a cost to industry of £12 bn per year
The Health & Safety Executive have today revealed details of a new "Toolkit" for managing sickness related absence in the workplace. If you have been injured in an accident at work then you may be able to claim compensation. Speak to one of our solicitors today about making a claim.
They have identified 6 key elements involved in effective management of the situation:
- Recording sickness absence
- Keeping in close contact with the absentee
- planning and undertaking work adjustments to minimise injury or illness
- Using professional advisors and helping the absentee to recover with treatment
- Agreeing a return to work plan
- Co-ordinating the return to work process.
One good example of a preventative measure quoted was the cost of flu vaccines which can be as little as £8.75 per person yet the cost of flu related absence can run into many thousands for even small to medium firms.
