In a move
that will enrage motorist support groups, Police are looking to roll out the
next generation of speed cameras in the UK.
There is
much controversy over whether speed cameras actually reduce
road accident injuries.
We have always taken the view that they are a huge positive and do actively
promote good driving behaviour when strategically positioned in accident
black-spot areas. The new cameras are more accurate and can distinguish
between 4 different lanes of moving traffic. There is a range of mobile
speed cameras to allow Police to stay on the move when targeting key areas.
However, many feel that the new improved speed cameras will simply target
drivers unfairly and swell the coffers of the Police Authorities who use
them.
Whilst
official figures can be difficult to get hold of, it is thought that up to 2
million drivers are caught speeding each year. Can the police be blamed for
enforcing the laws on Britain's roads?
