Complaints about individual medical practitioners
NHS complaints about individual medical practitioners are generally made to the relevant professional body. So, if the behaviour of a particular doctor is called into question then the complaint should go to the General Medical Council (GMC), while complaints about nurses are made to the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
A white paper had intended to set up a new Office of the Health Professions Adjudicator, to rule on fitness to practice cases which came from the GMC, but the government did not proceed on the matter though a new disciplinary tribunal for doctors may well be set up by the GMC in the near future.
