LCS to review miners compensation claims following complaints

The Legal Complaints Service (LCS) has confirmed it will attempt to review a number of miners compensation cases to determine whether allegations of unfair legal fees have any foundation - 9th May 2007

The Legal Complaints Service has indicated its intention to interview thousands of miners and their families regarding the settlements they received from the government compensation scheme.

The initiative comes following criticism from consumer groups about allegation that some solicitors who were assisting the families in guiding them through the compensation claims process, then took a percentage of the award in part payment of fees. This is controversial because the scheme allowed a reasonable sum for legal costs upon conclusion of a claim. Some firms charged the percentage on top of this sum.

The LCS have promised to take a firm line with any solicitors practices that it deems to have treated clients in an unfair way.

The miners scheme incorporated a very different method of pursuing cases for compensation claims for injury at work than we at The Claims Connection (Winston Solicitors) usually deal with. Click on the link above to learn more about our services.
