Child dies from swine flu the day after being sent home from hospital

A two-year-old girl died from swine flu less than 24 hours after being sent away from hospital despite doctors being told her mother had just got over the illness - 16th December 2009

The heartbroken mother whose two-year-old daughter died from swine flu claims the day before she died doctors had sent her home from hospital.

The mother said that her daughter began showing signs of swine flu a week after she herself had been suffering from the bug.

Despite this they claim that when the child’s father took her to hospital they told him to give her water and sent him home, tragically the girl died the following day.

The family is now following official NHS complaints procedures against the Bristol Children's Hospital.

This could be seen as possible medical negligence if, despite claims that the child’s father explained to doctors his wife had just had swine flu, they chose to send them home, where she died less than 24 hours later.

This NHS complaint will be fully investigated according to the director of public health.
