value
Work of equal value
Please visit our main
equal wage or salary compensation claims page to

In
order to claim you need to establish whether the role or
job at the centre of the pay dispute can be considered
"work of equal value"
HOW DO YOU SHOW YOU ARE DOING WORK
OF AN EQUAL VALUE?
There are three ways in which you can
show you are doing work of an equal value under the
Equal Pay Act.
1. You may prove this by showing you are
doing ‘like work’. This is the simplest way of bringing
a claim; by showing you are doing the same or broadly
similar work.
2. Another method is by showing you are
doing work of an equal value through a job evaluation
scheme. This measures the demands upon workers under
headings such as skill, effort and decision making. The
job evaluation scheme must be free from discrimination
itself.
3. Another method is by showing that you are
doing work related as being of an ‘equal value’. The
tribunal have to make an independent assessment as to
whether the two jobs are of equal value. Usually, an
independent ACAS expert will be appointed to produce a
report. More information on wage rights and claims for
