Study from York University suggests 90,000 deaths may
result from NHS negligence
According to a new study, up to 90,000 people may die as
a result of hospital errors every year.
One in ten patients are
harmed whilst
in hospital and as many as 20,000 die from blood
clots alone. These frightening statistics were the
result of an in depth study by York University.
Other areas of concern included:
A surge in hospital acquired infections such as MRSA or
CDifficile
Complications arising during or after surgery
Incorrect diagnoses
Pressure ulcers following a sustained period in bed
Drug or pharmacy complications
Unplanned re-admissions
This comes at a time when may
industry insiders are bemoaning the rise in
medical
negligence claims against the
NHS. There is little doubt however that standards must
be raised if this kind of bad press is to be avoided.
