Company exposed workers to asbestos

A company has been prosecuted for failing to protect its employees after it exposed workers to asbestos - 4th February

A Bristol company has been fined for failing to protect workers from exposure to asbestos.

Frank Bruce and Co pleaded guilty to breaches of construction regulations and control of asbestos regulations at Bristol Magistrates Court.

It happened when the company were carrying out refurbishment work on an industrial park in the city.

The court heard that workers were exposed to the asbestos and the units being renovated were contaminated.

The Health and Safety Executive said after the case that licensed workers should have removed the asbestos and there should have been a proper plan for dealing with the material.

HSE Inspector Sue Adsett said: “The decision not to have large quantities of asbestos insulation board removed by licensed contractors before the general refurbishment work began put the workers at risk and contaminated the site.”

If your employer has failed to prevent or safeguard against your injuries then you may be entitled to make a claim.
