Basildon and Thurrock failings
Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been the centre of plenty of criticism of patient failings
The Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was criticised by both the Dr Foster reports and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) survey.
The trust had a mortality rate a third higher than the national average and the CQC report found desperately poor conditions including stained floors and curtains, blood splattered trays, baby soiled mattresses and out of date equipment still being used.
It estimated that there were 400 avoidable deaths at the Basildon Hospital last year.
The hospital was back in the headlines in February 2010 after it pleaded guilty to health and safety failings. This followed a 20-year-old disabled man dying from asphyxiation when his head got trapped in railings around his bed.
A jury at the inquest said that neglect had contributed to his death.
If NHS complaints are to be reduced then some NHS Trusts need to clean up their acts to clean up their acts and prevent incidents like this from occurring.
