NHS Trusts - Performance ratings and information

England & Wales

Independent analysis of the performance of NHS hospital trusts during 2009

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) painted a rosy picture so far as hospital performance ratings were concerned in their latest report dated October 2009. However within weeks of publication, the findings were shown to be flawed.

Dr Fosters Hospital Guide, conducted following independent research into the performance of the UK's trusts, was published on the 27th November 2009. This report revealed a far worse performance rating for certain trusts that had otherwise been credited with achieving "good" or even "excellent" scores according to the CQC.

The data compiled by the Dr Foster research team has been received from various sources including the National Patient Safety Agency. The public can make their own mind up about which information they wish to reply upon.

We have chosen to publish the data provided by the Dr Foster report rather than the CQC.
